Let the dream be theirs
Ask your young reader what they would love to learn or try. It could be a sport, a drawing, a song or reading a whole book. You do not need to make a big plan straight away. Start by listening to what makes the idea exciting.
Choose one small step
Together, pick something they can try today: read one page, practise a gentle pass or sketch a character. Keep the step small enough to enjoy. At the end, talk about what they noticed rather than whether they got everything right.
Celebrate trying again
Some days a new skill feels easier than others. When a character in a book faces a setback, ask what could help them continue. A friend, a rest or a different approach can all be useful ideas to discuss.
Make the next chapter
Invite children to draw themselves taking their next small step. Keep the picture in the book as a bookmark, or use it to tell a new story together. A dream can grow one little chapter at a time.
